Lexus V8 Engines LLC12-Pin 5-Speed Automatic Transmission Client Plug Guide
Standalone Transmission Harness Technical Reference
Supported 5-speed automatic transmission and dash interface
Build-Specific Confirmation
Always confirm connector orientation, terminal location, wire color, circuit function, signal direction, polarity, fuse protection, and build-specific instructions before final installation. Do not wire by color alone.

Overview
The 12-pin 5-speed transmission client plug provides vehicle-side wiring points for range-position indication, reverse signal, overdrive/manual shift wiring, L/first-gear hold control, L indicator, overdrive indicator, and required input from the vehicle cluster where applicable.
The purpose of this plug is to keep transmission-related wiring separate from the main engine client plug, OBD2 wiring, cruise wiring, and transfer case wiring.
Important
This guide covers the vehicle-side 12-pin client plug used with supported 5-speed automatic transmission harness builds. This plug is a transmission and dashboard interface point only; it is not a full chassis or body harness.
General Information Notice
This document is provided for general information and customer reference only. Final wiring must be verified against the exact harness supplied and the vehicle-side circuit being connected.
Quick Start: Critical Connections
| Function Group | Circuit / Pin | Wire(s) | Customer Connection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Range Indicators | Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive | Pins 1-4 | Connect to vehicle-side dash/range indicator circuits as required. |
| Manual Range / L Hold | 3, 2, L hold | Pins 6-8 | Connect 3 and 2 as required. Pin 8 Purple is L hold switch circuit. |
| Indicator Lights | L / first gear and Overdrive | Pins 9-10 | Use for dash L/first-gear and overdrive indicators where applicable. |
| ODMS | Overdrive switch/control | Pin 5 | Use for overdrive switch/control strategy where applicable. |
| Cluster Input | Input from cluster | Pin 12 | Connect to required vehicle cluster input/source. |
Wire Color / Tracer Reference
Stripe/tracer colors are shown as diagonal bands on the wire. The first color is the base wire color. The second color is the stripe/tracer color.
Full Pinout Reference
| Pin | Wire Visual | Circuit / Function | Signal Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pin 1 | White | Park | Park range signal | Park output/interface for dash or vehicle-side range indication. |
| Pin 2 | Red / Black | Reverse | Reverse range signal | Reverse output/interface. Commonly used for reverse light or dash reverse indication depending on vehicle wiring. |
| Pin 3 | Green / Red | Neutral | Neutral range signal | Neutral output/interface for dash or vehicle-side indication. |
| Pin 4 | Green / Yellow | Drive | Drive range signal | Drive output/interface for dash or vehicle-side indication. |
| Pin 5 | Purple / Red | ODMS | Overdrive switch/control signal | Confirm switching method and polarity for the exact harness. |
| Pin 6 | Green / White | 3 | Third-range signal | Third-range output/interface where used. |
| Pin 7 | Green / Black | 2 | Second-range signal | Second-range output/interface where used. |
| Pin 8 | Purple | L / First Gear Hold | First-gear hold control | Route through a switch and connect as configured. Do not connect directly to power or ground. |
| Pin 9 | Green | L Indicator Light | L / first-gear indicator | Interface for dashboard L/first-gear indicator light where retained. |
| Pin 10 | Yellow / White | Overdrive Light | O/D indicator light | Output/interface for overdrive indicator light. Confirm polarity. |
| Pin 11 | N/A | Not Used | No customer connection | Leave unused unless build-specific instructions say otherwise. |
| Pin 12 | Purple / Blue | Input From Cluster | Cluster input / vehicle-side signal | Confirm exact circuit function, voltage level, and source before connecting. |
Detailed Circuit Notes
Range and reverse circuits
- Connect only to matching vehicle-side range indicator or reverse-light circuit required by the installation.
- Test reverse operation before road use to confirm lights/indication operate only in Reverse.
ODMS and L hold
- Confirm whether ODMS is switched to ground, switched to voltage, momentary, latching, or cluster controlled.
- Pin 8 L hold must be routed through the intended switch/circuit. Do not connect it to random dash wires.
Indicators and cluster input
- Confirm lamp polarity and current requirements before connecting Pins 9 and 10.
- Pin 12 must connect only to the required cluster/vehicle-side signal source.
First Test Checklist
| Item | Check |
|---|---|
| Range indicators | P/R/N/D and 3/2/L indicators match shifter operation. |
| Reverse | Reverse output/interface works only in Reverse. |
| ODMS | Overdrive switch/control strategy is confirmed. |
| L Hold | Pin 8 operates only through the intended switch strategy. |
| Cluster input | Pin 12 source, voltage, and signal type are confirmed. |
Troubleshooting Quick Reference
| Symptom | Items to Check |
|---|---|
| Wrong dash gear indication | Check range output wiring and cluster interface. |
| Overdrive does not operate | Check ODMS switching strategy and overdrive indicator wiring. |
| L hold does not work | Check Pin 8 routing and connection to the intended 2-range circuit strategy. |
